About this wine

Character

Dark fruit, spice and cool elegance: plum, blackberry and cassis meet black pepper, leather, coffee and graphite. A multi-layered bouquet in which the roasted notes appear with great finesse.

Terroir and origin

The vines grow on the Piana di Castellaro on Lipari, 350 metres above sea level, on volcanic, sandy soil. Pumice, obsidian and kaolin define this terroir. Massimo Lentsch and Stefania Frattolillo found their calling here in 2005; the 24 hectares are farmed organically, on terraces accessible only on foot.

Grape variety and vinification

Corinto (Korinthianki) had almost disappeared as a variety and is enjoying its renaissance on Lipari, trained in the alberello system without wire trellising. The destemmed grapes ferment for ten days in French barriques, with the cap submerged several times. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 500-litre barrels; after a year the wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined. 13.0% vol., dry.

On the palate

The wine draws its character from grip and structure, at once racy and elegant. Plenty of drive, paired with a beguilingly silky mouthfeel that gets the saliva flowing and leaves you wanting more. The finish lingers long: dark spice with cinnamon, clove and star anise, underpinned by coffee cream, dark chocolate and cocoa butter.

Food pairing

Braised lamb shoulder with oriental jus and mint tabbouleh, grilled veal chop with Café de Paris butter and braised vegetables, or roasted onion with anchovies, capers and green olives.

Special features

Certified organic. The bioclimatic winery relies exclusively on gravity; the 24 hectares deliberately yield just 70,000 bottles a year. Winemaker Emiliano Falsini has overseen vinification since 2016.
