About this wine
Character
A Jura white wine that reveals the oxidative finesse of its ageing while remaining vibrant: walnut and dried herbs over a dry, clearly defined body. Precise, mineral, without any heaviness.
Terroir and origin
Domaine Grand in Arbois has been family-owned since 1692, spanning nine generations. In 2015, Emmanuel and Nathalie Grand decided to reduce the vineyard area from 24 to 9.5 hectares. The vines grow on grey limestone as well as grey and red marl, with some dolomitic influence; certain plots are over 100 years old. Nathalie Grand tends the vineyards from Arbois through Passenans to the steep slopes of Château-Chalon, farming organically and without chemical treatments since 2018.
Grape variety and vinification
Chardonnay and Savagnin, aged together under a flor yeast veil. This layer of yeast on the surface of the wine gives Vin de Voile its nutty, spicy dimension without the wine oxidising. Emmanuel Grand oversees the cellar, working with old barrels and minimal sulphur.
On the palate
Dry and taut. The Chardonnay brings richness and fresh apple, the Savagnin its spice; beneath lies the salty, mineral line of the limestone and marl soils. The finish remains nutty and dry.
Special features
The Guide Hachette named Emmanuel and Nathalie Grand "Vignerons de l'année" in 2020. The estate bottles around 45,000 bottles a year, with labels created by French artist Bast.
