About this wine
Character
Régis Poissinet casts Pinot Meunier as the soloist here, and the grape carries the role: the 2014 has richness, juiciness and energy, along with a lively acidity that keeps everything in shape. Balanced, quietly powerful, with depth and length.
Terroir and origin
The vineyards lie at the threshold between the Marne Valley and the Montagne de Reims, in Cuchery, Baslieux, Leuvrigny, Troissy and Mareuil-le-Port. Chalky clay and alluvial soils, calcareous clay and alluvial limestone marl give the mineral backbone. The family estate's seven hectares are spread across 35 parcels, with vines averaging 33 years of age.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Pinot Meunier from the 2014 vintage, 100% aged in oak. The bottles were hand-riddled and disgorged on 5 July 2022 with a dosage of 2.3 grams. Extra Brut, then, and at that level no sugar remains to mask anything. That calls for flawless base wines.
On the palate
The nose leads to soft apples, ripe stone fruit and kumquat, along with fuzzy quince, wax, white nougat and almond croissant. On the palate, harmonious opulence sits alongside cool, faintly saline minerality, giving the ripeness a fresh counterpoint. The finish lingers long, with a hint of mint.
Special features
The family estate has worked biodynamically since 2011: no herbicides, no insecticides, its own compost from animal and plant residues, grasses and wildflowers between the vine rows. The house's dosage generally ranges between 1.7 and 3.5 grams per litre. The label carries the Demeter logo. 12.0% vol.
