About this wine
Character
An Extra Brut that draws its energy from Pinot Meunier: linear, taut and without sweetness as a cushion. The dosage of 1.9 grams per litre gives precedence to the citrus fruit and the mineral backbone.
Terroir and origin
The vineyards lie at the threshold between the Marne Valley and the Montagne de Reims. Seven hectares are spread across 35 parcels around Cuchery, Baslieux, Leuvrigny, Troissy and Mareuil-le-Port. The soils are calcareous clay and alluvial, made up of calcareous clay and alluvial calcareous marl, with vines averaging 33 years of age.
Grape variety and vinification
87% Pinot Meunier, 13% Chardonnay. Each parcel is vinified separately and only blended afterwards; 45% reserve wines lend the cuvée depth. It was aged in oak and tanks, disgorged on 28 November 2022. 12.0% vol.
On the palate
Medium straw yellow, fine mousse. The nose opens with delicate autolytic notes, white, faintly perfumed blossoms, lemon zest and almond, alongside yellow and green pome and stone fruit, a touch of stone and warm spice notes. On the palate, clear citrus fruit, a fine trace of yeast and brioche and slightly mellow apple notes that add further depth. Gentle pressure, a broad arc of tension, mouth-watering and long.
Distinctive features
The family estate has worked biodynamically since 2011, and the Demeter logo appears on the label. No herbicides, no insecticides — instead, their own compost made from animal and plant residues and a cover crop in which fauna and flora find their own balance. Son Maxime already works alongside in the vineyard.
