About this wine
Character
A dry Champagne of incisive linearity, where vibrant energy meets a creamy yeast note. The blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier stays fruity without becoming heavy, and structured without feeling weighty. 12.0% vol.
Terroir and origin
Champagne Régis Poissinet is based in Cuchery in the Marne Valley. Seven hectares are spread across 35 parcels around Cuchery, Baslieux, Leuvrigny, Troissy and Mareuil-le-Port, planted with vines averaging 33 years of age. Chalky clay and alluvial limestone marl give the wines their mineral backbone. The family estate has worked biodynamically since 2011: no herbicides, no insecticides, its own compost from animal and plant residues, grasses and wildflowers forming a living mulch between the vine rows.
Grape variety and vinification
Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier make up the blend, with Meunier taking the leading role here: Régis Poissinet shows that the variety can produce Champagne of depth and ageing potential. Each parcel is vinified separately before being composed into the final cuvée. After years on the lees, the dosage remains minimal, at the house between 1.7 and 3.5 grams of sugar per litre. This restraint demands flawless base wines.
On the palate
On the nose, green apple, lemon zest and white blossom, followed by brioche, candied lemon and a hint of white pepper. Taut, saline, mineral body, with the low dosage letting the fruit and chalky soil show through unadorned.
Food pairings
With oysters, sole fillet and turbot ceviche, as well as with roast chicken with lemon. Among cheeses, Comté and Chaource are excellent matches.
Special features
The Demeter logo on the label reflects the estate's rigorous biodynamic practice. Bottling takes place at the estate, at 8 rue du Pont in Cuchery. With son Maxime, the next generation is already at work in the vineyard. The double magnum holds 3000 ml.
