About this wine

Character

A taut, cool Teroldego with dark fruit and sinewy tension. At 12.5% Vol. it stays light on its feet without losing depth. Completely dry, its minerality carries the wine through to the finish.

Terroir and origin

The Morei single vineyard lies in the Campo Rotaliano, a valley plain in Trentino wedged between three-thousand-metre peaks. Over millennia, the Noce river deposited limestone, porphyry, granite and gneiss here; the Morei plot is defined by alluvial sand. By day the rock walls reflect the sun, by night cool mountain air moves through the valley.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Teroldego. Elisabetta Foradori took over the estate in 1984 and brought back the nearly forgotten variety through a mass selection carried out together with the University of Milan and the San Michele research centre. Since 2013 her son Emilio has been responsible for the cellar work. The wine spends eight months on the skins in Spanish clay amphorae, the tinajas: clay rather than barrique, because wood would overshadow the Teroldego.

On the palate

Dark violets and wild blackberries, alongside wet slate and damp earth. Racy acidity, firm tannins, an almost saline finish.

Food pairings

Braised leg of lamb, venison goulash, braised beef brisket, roasted duck breast or mature mountain cheese.

Special features

28 hectares of the estate are Demeter-certified, 80 percent of them planted to Teroldego; the Demeter logo appears on the label. Grey Tyrolean cattle graze among the vines, with the biodynamic farm forming an integral part of the estate.
