About this wine
Character
Deep purple with delicate violet reflections, dark, spicy and balsamic on the nose. The fruit shows as blackberry, cassis, blueberry and sweet cherry, underpinned by dark chocolate and cocoa butter. Juniper, rosemary and pine add ethereal, Mediterranean accents. Remarkable given Extremadura's extreme climate: nothing feels overripe, the wine stays cool and poised.
Terroir and origin
Juan Tirado and José Civantos spent eight years searching for the right terroir, finding it in 1999 in Trujillo, at the heart of Extremadura, where Bodegas Habla farms 200 hectares of slate soil. The soil is barren, summers blaze with heat, winters cut with cold: conditions in which weak vines fail and strong ones reach their peak.
Grape variety and vinification
A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The bodega, built half-buried into the landscape, processes the grapes by gravity in the Roman tradition, with fermentation in stainless steel. The winemakers in charge are Florent Dumeau from Bordeaux and Eduardo de José Prada.
On the palate
Powerful without being oversized. The fruit gathers into an intense display, fine tannin carries it through, slight green edges in the structure add extra freshness. The acidity grips and is essential to this rich wine, which despite its fullness remains uncomplicated and approachable.
Food pairings
Ossobuco with braised vegetables, grilled lamb shoulder with rosemary potatoes and Treviso radicchio, or a beetroot and bean stew.
Special features
The Numbers series follows one principle: each number appears only once and is never repeated. After Habla Nr 29 comes the next number, not the same wine again. The bodega, designed by GAP Arquitectos, is clad in a copper skin that patinas over the years and has won the Extremadura Architecture Award.
