About this wine
Character
A Syrah with both power and coolness. Extremadura provides the sunshine, while the wine stays taut and retains its freshness.
Terroir and origin
The vines grow on clay and limestone soils in Extremadura, in south-western Spain. The region's name translates as "extremely hard" and describes a continental climate with extremely hot summer days. Bodegas Habla is based near Trujillo, where Juan Tirado and José Civantos founded the estate in 1999.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Syrah from organic farming. Ageing lasted twelve months in French barriques, which lend the wine texture without masking the fruit. Dry, 14.0% ABV.
On the palate
Powerful and racy, with a velvety texture and ripe, mouth-filling tannins. The dark fruit and spicy notes from the nose carry through, joined by tobacco and Mediterranean herbs. The finish has very good length. There's nothing jammy about it, and the 14 percent alcohol feels moderate for Extremadura.
Food pairings
Chorizo and chickpea stew: the ripe tannins handle the sausage's fat well, and the wine's spice meets that of the dish.
Special features
The Numbers series follows one principle: each number appears only once and is never repeated. Once Nr 30 sells out, the next number follows. The winery, designed by GAP Arquitectos, is half underground and processes the grapes by gravity in the Roman manner, earning the estate the Extremadura Architecture Award. Its copper exterior patinas with age.
