About this wine
Character
The Habla Nr 34 2021 is a single-varietal Tempranillo of dark fullness whose power remains precisely structured. In the glass, a deep, almost impenetrable purple with bluish reflections at the core. Built on deep tones, threaded with a cool, ethereal freshness and remarkable drinkability.
Terroir and origin
The vines stand on 200 hectares of schist soils near Trujillo, in the heart of Extremadura. The soil is barren, the summers scorching hot, the winters bitingly cold. Conditions in which weak vines fail and strong ones find their concentration.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Tempranillo, dry, at 14.0% vol. The semi-underground bodega designed by GAP Arquitectos processes the grapes on the Roman model, relying solely on gravity, with fermentation in stainless steel. Responsible for this are the winemakers Florent Dumeau from Bordeaux and Eduardo de José Prada.
On the palate
Rich and even, dense in structure, the texture almost silky. Blackberry, sweet cherry and morello cherry carry a ripe fruit sweetness that never becomes overstated, underscored by beetroot, liquorice, dark chocolate, cedarwood and forest floor, together with the cool breath of eucalyptus and mint. The firm acidity sets clear accents and keeps the dark fullness in tension.
Food pairings
With braised ox cheeks, Ibérico chop, game dishes with juniper or long-aged Manchego.
Special features
Juan Tirado and José Civantos founded Bodegas Habla in 1999, after eight years of searching for the right terroir. The Numbers series follows one clear rule: each number appears only once. Once the Habla Nr 34 sells out, the next number takes its place. The bodega's copper exterior develops a patina over the years, and the building has won the Extremadura Architecture Award.
