About this wine

Character

A single-varietal Zweigelt from Gols on Lake Neusiedl, presented here in a 1500 ml magnum. The nose is straightforward and clear: warm sweet cherry, the freshness of sour cherry, peppery lingonberry, with dark berries and Black Forest gateau lingering in the background.

Terroir and Origin

Gernot and Heike Heinrich farm one hundred hectares around Gols, entirely biodynamically: cool limestone slopes on the Leithaberg, gravel, and red slate on the Parndorfer Platte. Many of these parcels had been abandoned by others before the Heinrichs acquired them piece by piece. The Zweigelt brings together origins from various corners of Lake Neusiedl.

Grape Variety and Vinification

Pure Zweigelt from the 2017 vintage, which endowed the grapes with great finesse. The estate has been working biodynamically since 2006. In the Heinrichs' cellar, gravity moves the wine, pumps are left aside, and clay amphorae as well as large used wooden casks from local cooper Klaus Pauscha are used for maturation.

On the Palate

Juicy is the defining word for this wine. From sour cherry to sweet cherry, the full spectrum of fruit unfolds, while the tannin remains finely structured and grippy, lending real depth. At 12.0% ABV, it presents itself dry, full-bodied, and generously ripe, without ever losing its cool elegance. Serve at 15 to 16 °C.

Food Pairings

Vegetarian with Fourme d'Ambert with braised red onion and sweet potato purée. For meat dishes, it pairs wonderfully with pan-fried salsiccia with cherry tomatoes and rosemary focaccia or braised pork ribs with aubergine cream, peppers, and chickpeas.

Key Facts

The estate is Demeter-certified (since 2017) and co-founded the respekt-BIODYN association in 2009. Gernot Heinrich studied oenology, while Heike Heinrich came from fashion and PR; in 1990, the two started in Gols with just two hectares of their own vines.
