About this wine
Character
A sparkling wine that puts spice at its centre: exotic spices spread over a tightly measured fruit, underpinned by a straight line of chalk. Vinified dry, 13.0% Vol.
Terroir and origin
Vouvray on the Loire, Première Côte. This Pétillant brings together all three of Domaine Huet's sites: Le Haut-Lieu, with deep, limestone-rich clay, Le Mont, with less clay and more stones, sitting directly above the historic tuffeau cellars, and Clos du Bourg, with the leanest, stoniest soils. Limestone and clay provide the minerality.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Chenin Blanc, known within the estate as the grape of the moonlight. Gaston Huet introduced biodynamics in the late 1980s, and the entire estate has been Demeter-certified since 1993. Cellar master Benjamin Joliveau, a Vouvray native, has been responsible for the wines since 2020. The deep rock-cut galleries serve as the cellar: constant temperature, neutral vessels, time.
On the palate
The opening is tart, showing first fullness and richness carried by the mousse. Only then does the lively fizz set in, leaving room until that point for candied ginger, acacia honey, peach compote and mango, and for the tart freshness of grapefruit and mandarin. Turmeric, Madras curry, allspice and white pepper mark the finish. Once the fruit and fizz have faded, a chalky minerality lingers, returning again and again for minutes.
Special features
Domaine Huet in Vouvray, founded in 1928, is regarded as a benchmark for Chenin Blanc and ranks among the Loire's biodynamic icons. What makes this Pétillant unusual is its combination of honeyed, spiced depth with a taut, chalky tartness.
