About this wine

Character

A dry Aligoté that draws its tension from acidity rather than oak. Lemon zest, green apple and white blossom stand out clearly, with a fine mineral spice in the background. At 12.0% vol., the wine stays lean and aromatic.

Terroir and origin

Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand is located in Saint-Philibert, east of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits, and farms 5.25 hectares. Les Blanches is one of several Aligoté parcels that Galeyrand vinifies separately, alongside Chaumont and Alligotay. 70 percent of the vineyards are farmed organically, 30 percent according to sustainable principles; pesticides are excluded and the soil is worked mechanically.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Aligoté, vinified in the small cellar at Galeyrand's home. The work is done with fresh grape juice and no technological intervention: no industrial yeasts, no fining agents, no enzymes, minimal sulphur. Ageing lasts twelve months in oak barrels from French forests, with the proportion of new oak deliberately kept low.

On the palate

The wine opens fresh, the acidity is crisp and carries through to the finish. The fruit stays delicate, green apple and citrus return, the finish is linear and dry.

Food pairings

The obvious partners are oysters and seafood. Fresh goat's cheese, grilled fish or a light vegetable quiche work equally well, as do dishes with citrus notes and fresh herbs.

Special features

In 2020, Jérôme Galeyrand received a star in the Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France. The domaine was built without a winemaking family behind it: eight years in the cheese trade, then in 2002 the first parcel of 0.05 hectares. Total production stands at around 2,000 cases.
