About this wine

Character

A light-footed Pinot Noir with a silky, loosely woven texture, open-hearted and already approachable. The nose stays transparent, offering scents of wild raspberries, small strawberries and wild blueberries, topped with delicate floral notes of orange blossom and purple lilac.

Terroir and origin

Les Champs de Vosger stretches out below the village of Fixin, in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. The vines grow here on light, sandy soils, which explains the wine's translucent, unassuming character. Jérôme Galeyrand's domaine is based in Saint-Philibert and comprises 5.25 hectares spread across Marsannay, Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Pinot Noir, mostly destemmed, fermented in tank and then aged in 228-litre barrels with only a small proportion of new oak; the wood comes from French forests, and the domaine's red wines mature for 18 to 24 months. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, ploughed rather than chemically treated, and harvested by hand, with lunar cycles also playing a role. In the cellar, Galeyrand works without industrial yeasts, fining agents or enzymes, using only as much sulphur as necessary.

On the palate

Silky transparency and fine, rich fruit, rounded out by subtle notes of liquorice and tarragon. Elegant tannins line the edge of the tongue, the body stays medium, and the flow is swift.

Food pairing suggestions

Oven-roasted roots with tarragon butter, wels catfish on sautéed heirloom carrots and beetroot with citrus fumet, or short rib with red beets.

Special features

Galeyrand arrived in Burgundy with no winemaking family behind him: eight years in the cheese trade, then work as a harvest helper, wine school in Beaune, and in 2002 his first plot of 0.05 hectares. In 2020, he was awarded a star in the Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France. Production stands at around 2,000 cases a year.
