About this wine

Character

A rosé built on freshness and precision. The fruit stays crisp and focused, never broad or sweetish. The magnum format gives it a sense of calm, making it a wine for long tables.

Terroir and origin

Manincor is located in Kaltern on the Brenner road, on the way to Lake Kaltern. The estate building, with its distinctive tower, has stood there for over 400 years, while the cellar behind it is built in a modern way into the slope: it works by gravity rather than pumps, and the cool rock keeps temperatures constant. Michael Graf Goëss-Enzenberg took over the estate from his uncle in 1991 and ended the practice of delivering grapes to the cooperative. Today, 50 hectares of vineyards form part of a 463-hectare whole of orchards, vines, forest and meadows, farmed according to Demeter principles.

Grape variety and vinification

The cuvée combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Lagrein. Lagrein is South Tyrol's native red grape, lending color and structure, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot add depth. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, and the aging follows the principle of minimal intervention. Estate director Helmuth Zozin, in office since 2008 and previously cellar master for twenty years at the Kellerei Kaltern, thinks in connected terms from pruning right through to bottling. 13.0% ABV, dry.

On the palate

Raspberry and strawberry, along with pomegranate and a floral note. The acidity carries the wine in a straight line, and the finish stays dry and mineral.

Special features

The conversion to biodynamic farming began in 2005, followed in 2006 by the first fully biodynamic vintage. Chickens, sheep and bees are part of the estate, and herbal teas replace synthetic sprays.
