About this wine
Character
This Meursault is the white wine of a house based in Vosne-Romanée. It plays on definition: the acidity leads, the buttery note stays in the background, and the 14.0% ABV carries the wine without weighing it down. Precision and finesse, as Sophie Noëllat describes the estate's style, hold true here as well.
Terroir and origin
Les Grands Charrons lies in the hillside zone west of the village of Meursault in the Côte de Beaune, where limestone and marl soils give the Chardonnay its tension between richness and freshness. The estate is run by Sophie Noëllat, sixth generation of Domaine Michel Noëllat, and Arnaud Sirugue, fifth generation of Domaine Robert Sirugue. Their cellar is located at Place de la Maire 5 in Vosne-Romanée.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Chardonnay. Since 2018, this white wine has stood alongside the estate's red wines; in 2023 the couple fully took over the Sirugue inheritance and completed the new cellar. Ageing follows the house standard: 12 to 15 months in barrel, oak without excess.
On the palate
Pear and quince lead, joined by ripe apple and a hint of hazelnut. The acidity holds the line through to the finish, where a fine buttery note lingers. Dry, with a mineral pull.
Food pairings
A wine for classic French cuisine: sole in butter, pan-fried chicken with morels, coquilles Saint-Jacques. With cheese, Comté or a mature Époisses.
Highlights
The estate spans twelve hectares, extending up to the Grand Cru Grands Échézeaux. The family history includes Jean-François Jayer, uncle of Henri Jayer, who once married into the Sirugue family.
