About this wine
Character
Dark-fruited, powerful and forthright. The name comes from the Trentino dialect: "moro" means dark, referring to the colour of this Teroldego, purple-red with a black core and violet highlights. On the nose, a floral top note of mallow and violets over mulberries, blueberries and dark bitter chocolate.
Terroir and origin
Campo Rotaliano sits like an inlet of the Adige valley, tucked between the mountains. For centuries the Noce river has carried limestone, granite and porphyry debris down into the valley, shaping the micro-zones of this area. The 2.5 hectares of the Morei site lie on its pebbly, sandy alluvial soils.
Grape variety and vinification
100 percent Teroldego Rotaliano. Elisabetta Foradori revived this nearly forgotten variety through meticulous clonal selection; today 28 hectares are Demeter-certified, 80 percent of them Teroldego. The grapes ferment in tinajas, clay amphorae from Villarrobledo in Spain, and clarify over eight months of ageing on the skins. Oak plays no role.
On the palate
The entry is juicy and approachable, the generous dark fruit framed by gripping tannin that feels fine-grained and dense, like the finest sandpaper. Ripe acidity gives the wine its drive, bitter chocolate accompanies the long, fruity finish. A few years of bottle age will do it good.
Food pairing suggestions
Fermented red cabbage soup with watercress, orange and walnut salad, tuna steak with red wine butter and treviso radicchio, or rabbit braised in red wine with tarragon and mushrooms.
Special features
Demeter logo on the label. The site yields an average of 12,000 bottles. The magnum holds 1500 millilitres, 13.0% ABV, dry.
