About this wine
Character
A white Burgundy of the quiet kind: clear, juicy fruit, fine austerity and that taut, saline line that runs through the entire range of Domaine Bruno Clair. Lean in build, precise, without fuss.
Terroir and origin
Morey-Saint-Denis lies in the Côte de Nuits and is known above all for its red wines. En la rue de Vergy is one of the village's few parcels planted with Chardonnay. Domaine Bruno Clair in Marsannay-la-Côte farms 27 hectares across eight villages of the Côte d'Or, bottling 32 appellations from them. Bruno Clair founded it in 1986 with seven hectares inherited from Clair-Daü, which began in 1919 with the marriage of Joseph Clair and Marguerite Daü.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Chardonnay, fermented spontaneously. In the cellar, the principle is as much as necessary, as little as possible; clarification is left to time, and the wine rests long enough to be bottled without cosmetic intervention. In the vineyards, cover crops and the renunciation of herbicides have long been standard practice. The sixth generation works with less sulphur: Edouard is responsible for the vineyard and vinification, Arthur for the ageing in the cellar.
On the palate
Dry, lean and clearly defined. Lemon and green apple carry the fruit core, white blossom floats above it, and vibrant acidity keeps everything in tension. The finish stays saline and mineral. 13.0% vol.
Food pairings
With precise cuisine: grilled pikeperch, scallops with lemon butter, sole in brown butter or trout with almond butter. For cheese, young Comté, goat's cheese and a young Époisses work beautifully.
Distinctive features
A white Morey-Saint-Denis is rare, and this one carries the house's understated signature: transparent, unadorned, with real ageing potential.
