About this wine

Character

A bone-dry Riesling that shows two sides in equal measure: juicy apple fruit on one hand, a stony, saline edge on the other. At 11.5% ABV, it stays light-footed without losing substance.

Terroir and origin

The grapes grow near Birkweiler in the Palatinate. From Siebeldingen, the Rebholz family farms 26 hectares on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, spread across four soil types: Rotliegende, variegated sandstone, slate and shell limestone. The eponymous Rotliegende soil is what lends the mineral tension here.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure varietal Riesling. 24 hours of skin contact, clarification achieved solely through natural sedimentation, aged in stainless steel tank. No wood, no shortcuts: fully fermented and dry, true to the style of the estate now run by Hansjörg Rebholz in its fourth generation.

On the palate

The nose opens with ripe apple fruit and quince compote, joined by citrus notes recalling orange, lime and grapefruit; white pepper along with stony and smoky nuances add complexity. On the palate, juicy fruit meets playful acidity, with a saline finish. Very good ageing potential.

Food pairing recommendations

A versatile food companion, especially with spicy and intensely flavoured dishes: Muscat pumpkin soup with macadamia crunch, potato and Kasseler salad in mustard dressing or sea bass in a ham crust with vegetable strips and basil gnocchi.

Special features

Young, this wine benefits from decanting; even several days after opening it remains juicy and vibrant. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, and Hansjörg Rebholz headed the VDP Palatinate for 25 years.
