About this wine

Character

The Riesling "Im Sonnenschein" GG 2022 by Ökonomierat Rebholz is a dry Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru) from the Pfalz that combines filigree finesse with real pull. Its fruit stays subtle yet persistent: white peach, nashi pear and mirabelle plum, together with zest of bergamot and kaffir lime leaf. The current picture is defined by cool herbal spice from eucalyptus, mint and lemon balm, rounded out by restrained thyme and sage along with vegetal nuances of pea and fennel.

Terroir and origin

On the edge of the Palatinate Forest, the Rebholz family farms 26 hectares across four geological formations, from Rotliegend through variegated sandstone and schist to shell limestone. Im Sonnenschein near Siebeldingen is the estate's monopole site and is farmed biodynamically. Hansjörg and Birgit Rebholz now run the estate together with their twin sons Hans and Valentin.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Riesling, fully fermented according to the house principle and finished bone-dry, without any intervention in the terroir. 12.5% vol.

On the palate

Full of race and structure, with ample phenolics and corresponding grip, densely woven and fine-knit. The acidity then snaps in like a lasso, engaging the fruit in an animating duel. The stony, chalky element seasons the wine like a pinch of salt and holds the tension through to the finish.

Food pairings

Steamed parsnip with sage-basil oil and roasted almonds, pan-seared red snapper with artichoke bottoms and oregano butter, or wild herb salad with grilled lobster and sauce velouté.

Special features

A long-distance runner with great ageing potential. Opened young, it shows a herbal, ethereal and slightly vegetal aromatic profile; with years in the cellar, the fruit intensifies.
