About this wine
Character
The Ganz Horn is a bone-dry Riesling of cool depth. At 12.5% ABV it stays lean without losing power. Bright, light golden yellow in the glass.
Terroir and origin
The Ganz Horn parcel lies within the Siebeldingen vineyard Im Sonnenschein in the Queich valley, a south-facing slope sheltered from cold air at 175 metres above sea level. 2.5 hectares are classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, of which the estate farms 2.1 hectares. The soil formed in the Pleistocene around a million years ago: variegated sandstone gravel from the Palatinate Forest, gravel and loam.
Grape variety and vinification
Riesling, selectively hand-harvested over several passes and destemmed. After 24 hours of skin contact comes gentle pressing and clarification by natural sedimentation, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine spent five months on full lees, was racked in March 2023 and bottled in June 2023. The estate has been organically certified since 2005 and a member of respekt-BIODYN since 2015.
On the palate
The nose brings together orange, peach and lime with a yeasty, smoky spiciness; with air, ginger, lemon balm and sage emerge. On the palate it remains lean and lively, with young pineapple and delicately bitter grapefruit. If drinking it young, open and decant it early; over several days it gains in elegance.
Food recommendations
With onsen egg on smoked potato cream with sage, with monkfish with an orange-pumpkin-seed crust and Riesling risotto, or with veal fillet in a herb crust with parsnips and citrus jus.
Special features
Some pebbles in the soil consist of pure quartz crystal; at the estate they are processed into biodynamic preparation 501. Even before the 1971 wine law reform, this parcel was known as Siebeldinger Ganshorn for its top-tier Rieslings. Bottled in the 1500ml Magnum.
