About this wine

Character

A purist, dry Riesling that reveals coolness and depth on the nose from the outset. Fragrant and inviting in its youth: orange, peach and lime, framed by compact spice as well as yeasty, smoky and mineral notes. With aeration, ginger, lemon balm and sage emerge.

Terroir and origin

The Queich Valley runs from the Palatinate Forest into the Rhine Valley, forming south-facing slopes along the way. Siebeldingen's summer-facing side carries the vineyard designation Im Sonnenschein, with vineyards lying 160 to 225 metres above sea level on slopes of 5 to 20 percent. The Ganz Horn parcel sits at 175 metres west of the German Wine Route, below the Geilweilerhof, sheltered from cold air. 2.5 hectares are classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, of which the estate farms 2.1 hectares. The soil formed during the Pleistocene roughly a million years ago from variegated sandstone gravel of the Palatinate Forest, gravel and loam.

Grape variety and vinification

Riesling from selective hand-harvesting across several passes. The grapes were destemmed and, after 24 hours of skin contact, gently pressed; the must clarified through natural sedimentation and fermented in stainless steel tank. After five months on full lees came racking in March 2023 and bottling in June 2023.

On the palate

Sleek and lively, with citrus fruit, peach, orange, young pineapple and a delicately bitter note of grapefruit. Depth, juiciness and power remain light-footed; the 12.5% vol. carries the wine's drinkability.

Food pairings

Onsen egg on smoked potato cream with sage, monkfish with an orange and pumpkin-seed crust and Riesling risotto, or veal fillet in a herb crust with parsnips and citrus jus.

Special features

Some pebbles in the soil are made of pure quartz crystal; the biodynamically farmed estate processes them into preparation 501. Those drinking the bottle young should open it early and decant it: over several days the wine gains in elegance and complexity. Otherwise, it belongs in the cellar.
