About this wine
Character
The Riesling Landgeflecht PJK.Unikat 2021 is a dry Rheingau Riesling from a monopole vineyard on the Doosberg, both airy and complex at once. It comes across as calm and effortless, while the minerality vibrates and the energy pulses beneath. Bright, floral and light-toned fruity aspects meet a dark smokiness that comes from the quartzite soils.
Terroir and origin
The Landgeflecht plot lies in the lower part of the Doosberg and was planted in 1978. Loess and clay soils over quartzite shape the subsoil. Peter Jakob Kühn first produced a wine of its own from this monopole site in 2006. The estate in Oestrich-Winkel farms 21 hectares according to Demeter biodynamic principles and is run, in its twelfth generation, by Peter Bernhard and Viktoria.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Riesling from hand-harvested grapes. The whole clusters were pressed over several hours, and the must fermented spontaneously. Ageing lasted 24 months on full lees in the traditional 1,200-litre oak cask, without any intervention in the natural composition of the musts; the wine then continued to mature in bottle. 12.0% vol.
On the palate
On the nose, smoke and herbs, tobacco and cubeb pepper, alongside mirabelle plum and peach, cider apple and quince. The palate continues this impression: silky texture, fine phenolic grip, saline tension and a finish that has truly earned its length.
Special features
The 1500 ml magnum allows the wine to age more slowly than the standard bottle of the same content. The label bears the Demeter logo.
