About this wine

Character

An aged Brut Nature, meaning zero dosage: what's in the bottle comes solely from the grape and from time. Recaredo has bottled exclusively Brut Nature since 1924, and the 1999 is the wine with which the house launched the first single-vineyard Cava in history. It is not richness that carries this wine, but acidity, salinity and length.

Terroir and origin

The Turó d'en Mota vineyard covers 0.97 hectares and was planted in 1940. Its north-facing slope, with its shaded areas, yields Xarel·lo of exceptional acidity; the soil is heavily calcareous and low in organic matter. Recaredo's 50 hectares in total lie on the right bank of the Bitlles river and are farmed biodynamically, Demeter-certified since 2010, as the first estate in the region to achieve this.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Xarel·lo. Bottle fermentation takes place entirely under natural cork rather than crown cap; lees ageing for the Turó d'en Mota lasts at least 156 months, meaning over thirteen years; bottles from the Enoteca series come from the archive and sometimes rest on the lees for twenty years or more. Disgorgement is done by hand, without freezing: the cellar master releases the lees sediment solely through the movement of the bottle.

On the palate

Deep golden yellow with amber highlights, the bead fine and persistent. On the nose, toasted bread, hazelnut and beeswax, alongside quince and ripe citrus peel. The attack is creamy, underpinned by a taut acidity that lifts the wine; brioche, almond and dried fruit carry through to a saline, mineral, completely dry finish.

Special features

Ton Mata, grandson of the founder, co-founded Corpinnat with like-minded producers in 2019: only estate-grown grapes, only hand harvesting, only native grape varieties, at least 18 months of lees ageing. Today the association comprises 16 estates.
