About this wine
Character
A quiet sparkling wine that doesn't seek its impact through volume. It comes across as serious and composed, yet precise, energetic and entirely focused on origin and authenticity.
Terroir and origin
The vineyards lie in the Alt Penedès on the right bank of the Bitlles river. Here, limestone defines the soil and reaches its purest expression; the white stones between the vine rows show it immediately. The vines for this cuvée were planted in the 1950s and 1960s. Recaredo farms 50 hectares of its own vineyards biodynamically.
Grape variety and winemaking
A nearly balanced blend of Xarel·lo and Macabeu, its character honed since 1962. Bottle fermentation takes place under natural cork, the lees ageing lasts at least 80 months, disgorgement is done by hand and without freezing. As a Brut Nature, the wine remains without dosage.
On the palate
On the nose, a deep yeasty undertone leads first, joined by sliced almonds, dried marjoram, sage, thyme and oregano, pale dried apple and almond blossoms, as well as a maritime side of oyster shell, fresh seaweed and seawater. On the palate, the lean, stony foundation persists without ever feeling harsh. The fruit only now emerges, tentative and precise: lemon zest, lime juice, kaffir lime zest and a fine yellow nuance of mirabelle plum and apricot. In the finish, fruit, herbs and maritime notes return delicately.
Distinctive features
Recaredo has produced exclusively Brut Nature since 1924. Ton Mata, grandson of the founder, co-founded Corpinnat in 2019 together with like-minded winemakers, a collective label with strict rules: only estate-grown grapes, only hand harvesting, only native grape varieties, at least 18 months of lees ageing.
