About this wine

Character

Dry Rheingau Riesling with clear contours: ripe peach, followed by delicate floral notes and a mineral tension that keeps the wine lean. Depth without weight, entirely in the house's signature style.

Terroir and origin

The estate is located in Oestrich-Winkel in the Rheingau, founded in 1786 by Jacobus Kühn and continuously family-owned ever since. Today, Peter Bernhard and Viktoria run the estate in its twelfth generation. The 21 hectares are spread across Doosberg, Klosterberg, Lenchen, St. Nikolaus, Hendelberg and Jungfer, planted almost exclusively to Riesling and farmed according to Demeter guidelines.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure varietal Riesling. Restraint governs the cellar: spontaneous fermentation, no fining, minimal use of sulfur, no heavy oak influence. From his time at Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace and with Burgundian producers, Peter Bernhard brought back a finer sense for acid structure and extraction; since then, the wines' contours have become sharper. 12.5% ABV, dry.

On the palate

Juicy fruit and mineral freshness balance each other, with the acid structure providing the backbone. Peach and blossom linger long on the finish, without the wine losing its focus.

Food pairing recommendations

With grilled fish and fresh herb salads.

Special features

In the early 2000s, Peter Jakob Kühn switched to biodynamic viticulture — at the time an affront in the tradition-bound Rheingau: sheep grazing between the vine rows, horn manure and valerian. Since 2009, the estate has carried the Demeter seal, whose logo also appears on this label.
