About this wine

Character

The Riesling Schlehdorn PJK.Unikat 2020 is a dry white wine from the Rheingau, grown at the Kühn family's Demeter estate in Oestrich-Winkel. It carries the estate's signature: transparent, mineral, vibrant, with a slender build at 12.5% vol.

Terroir and origin

Jacobus Kühn founded the estate in 1786 in Oestrich-Winkel; today Peter Bernhard and Viktoria Kühn run 21 hectares in the twelfth generation, planted almost exclusively with Riesling. Slate and quartzite underpin the wines, lending them their crystalline clarity. In the early 2000s, Peter Jakob Kühn switched to biodynamic farming; since 2009 the estate has carried the Demeter seal.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Riesling. In the cellar the same restraint applies as in the vineyard: spontaneous fermentation, no fining, minimal use of sulphur, no heavy oak influence and no lengthy cellar ageing. Peter Bernhard Kühn brought back a fine sense for acid structure and extraction from Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace and from Burgundian producers, giving the wines sharper contours.

On the palate

Straw yellow in the glass. On the nose, white blossom, lemon and a hint of peach. The wine is dry, the acidity stays vibrant, with ripe apple, an herbal note and mineral depth.

Food recommendations

With delicate fish dishes and fresh summer salads.

Special features

Demeter-certified, the logo appears on the label. Sheep grazing between the vine rows, horn manure and valerian are part of the vineyard work. 750 ml, 12.5% vol., dry.
