Riesling Sekt Brut traditionelle Flaschengärung 2020

A dry Riesling sparkling wine from the Rheingau that draws its impact from precision and tension rather than fullness. The perlage is lively and broadly streaming, the fruit juicy, the structure invigorating. A cool finesse carries the wine from the nose through to the finish.

Peter Jakob Kühn farms 21 hectares in Oestrich-Winkel, planted almost exclusively with Riesling, on soils of slate and quartzite. The estate traces back to its founding by Jacobus Kühn in 1786 and is today run in its twelfth generation by Peter Bernhard and Viktoria. It has carried the Demeter seal since 2009: sheep grazing between the vine rows, horn manure and valerian preparations are part of the daily work.

Pure Riesling, second fermentation in the bottle following the traditional method. Restraint governs the cellar: spontaneous fermentation, no fining, minimal use of sulphur, no heavy oak ageing. The sparkling wine has 12.0% ABV and is dry.

On the nose, lemon and apple, along with a delicate touch of ginger, floral nuances and a pronounced minerality. The palate entry is invigoratingly dry and precise, carried by juicy fruit and a subtle phenolic grip that gives the sparkling wine structure and length.

Just as compelling as an aperitif as it is at the table, especially alongside piquant, savoury-inspired dishes.
