About this wine

Character

In the glass, an intense, hazy orange. The nose is distinctly fragrant: apricot and apricot skin, roses, lychee, fresh ginger and vanilla foam. An aromatic, lively wine that grabs your attention immediately and doesn't let go.

Terroir and origin

The grapes come from the southeast-facing Spiegel vineyard in Breitenbrunn and from Hochfeld in Winden. The vines root deep into soil made of fossil-rich limestone sandstone and eroded mica schist. Gernot and Heike Heinrich farm their hundred hectares around Gols on Lake Neusiedl entirely biodynamically, parcel by parcel assembled over decades.

Grape variety and vinification

A pure varietal Roter Traminer from the Freyheit line, Gernot Heinrich's range of orange wines: fourteen days of skin contact, which give it its colour, grip and texture. In the cellar, gravity does the work instead of pumps; ageing takes place in clay amphorae and in large casks of used wood from the regional cooper Klaus Pauscha. Bottling is done into the clay bottle, with a great deal of handwork and care.

On the palate

Intense, charming and exuberant, with a delicate ginger spiciness that gives the wealth of aromas contour. The texture is so tangible you'll want to take a bite of this wine; great freshness carries it all and keeps it dry and taut. A wine that calls creative cooks to action.

Heinrich has worked biodynamically since 2006, has been Demeter-certified since 2017, and co-founded the respekt-BIODYN association in 2009. 12.0% vol., dry.
