About this wine

Character

A Teroldego that favours clarity over power: pure, juicy, dry, with 12.5% ABV and lively acidity. The fruit stays cool, the drive taut through to the finish.

Terroir and origin

The Sgarzon vineyard, whose name means grapevine tendril in the Trentino dialect, lies in the Campo Rotaliano near Mezzolombardo. 2.5 hectares of alluvial land with plenty of sand in the topsoil, the plot exposed and barely sheltered from the cold winds that sweep down from the mountains into the valley at night. This coolness prolongs ripening and shapes the wine right through to its texture.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Teroldego. Elisabetta Foradori revived this nearly forgotten grape variety through years of mass selection; since 2013, her son Emilio has been responsible for winemaking. The Sgarzon spent eight months on the skins in tinajas, Spanish cellar amphorae with a capacity of 420 litres. In spring 2020 it was racked into concrete tanks, where it harmonised over the summer.

On the palate

The nose is lifted by elderberries, sloes and sour cherries, alongside violet blossoms, light tobacco, mint and dry undergrowth, underpinned by sweet yeast. This is followed by a silky texture reminiscent of fired clay, red and dark fruit, tingling minerality. On the finish the fruit turns darker, staying crisp and fresh, joined by dry tobacco.

Food pairings

Rice pan with beetroot and walnuts, filet steak with chermoula sauce, oven-roasted tomatoes and potatoes, or lamb chops on vegetable couscous.
