About this wine

Character

A Grand Cru Pinot Blanc that draws its depth without any use of oak. The nose seems almost shy at first, then reveals itself as filigree and finely wrought: ripe lemon with a touch of bergamot, verbena, subtle stone and pome fruit, alongside chalky notes of oyster shell and graphite. Aged bone-dry, with 0.5 g/l residual sugar and 5.5 g/l acidity.

Terroir and origin

The Im Sonnenschein vineyard, a monopole of the estate, lies on Siebeldingen's sun-facing slope in the Queich valley at 160 to 250 metres, with a gradient of 5 to 20 percent. The roughly 40-year-old Pinot Blanc vines face southwest in the purest part of the vineyard, on Triassic shell limestone soil. Shell limestone gives the estate's wines the fine acid structure that carries this wine. Ökonomierat Rebholz's top VDP vineyard sites are farmed biodynamically.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure varietal Pinot Blanc. After slow pressing in a basket press, the wine fermented spontaneously in stainless steel, where it remained until bottling, without any oak. 13.0% vol.

On the palate

Noticeably more open and engaging than on the nose, while retaining that fine tension. Juicy, lively and agile, with pale white-fleshed fruit and a touch of citrus, polished acidity, creamy texture and stony minerality.

Food pairings

With refined fish dishes such as pan-fried turbot, with seafood, or with veal fillet in morel cream sauce.
