About this wine
Character
Ripe fruit and fine spice carry this Pinot Noir without ever making it feel heavy. The fruit sweetness is pronounced, the tannin piquant, and the acidity keeps both in motion. Even at this stage, the wine gives a great deal of pleasure.
Terroir and origin
The grapes grow in the Petit Vercotes climat, directly alongside the D974 in Aloxe-Corton. The 1.74 cultivated hectares are shaped by red clay and abundant limestone, a combination that gives the wine both fullness and upright structure.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure varietal Pinot Noir. After destemming, a cold pre-fermentation maceration and spontaneous fermentation follow. The wine then ages slowly for 18 months on fine lees in 228-litre barriques, mainly from the François Frères cooperage, with 50 to 75 percent new oak. 13.5% ABV, vinified dry.
On the palate
The glass releases wild raspberry, blackcurrant and sweet strawberry, joined with air by chestnut, leather, cocoa and soy sauce. The wine comes across as polished and alluring, the fruit remains underpinned by sweetness, and the finish closes with pronounced spice.
Food pairings
This wine seeks out slightly sweet and fruity components: duck breast with cassis reduction, braised game or jugged hare.
Special features
Yann Charlopin learned his craft in the cellar of his father Philippe Charlopin, whose mentor was Henri Jayer, and deepened his skills further under Jean-Marie Fourrier. In 2013, he founded his own domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis together with his wife Justine Tissier: organic handwork, spontaneous fermentation, slow ageing on fine lees.
