About this wine
Character
A dry Chardonnay with drive and medium body, 13.0% vol., already approachable young. Yann Charlopin and Justine Tissier have run their domaine from Morey-Saint-Denis since 2013: organic manual work in the vineyard, spontaneous fermentation in the cellar, minimal intervention.
Terroir and origin
The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation has existed only since 2017 and brings together plots from the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The domaine farms just over four hectares in the Côte de Nuits, with parcels in Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée and Clos Vougeot.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Chardonnay. The house follows the style Yann Charlopin learned from his father Philippe Charlopin and during his apprenticeship with Jean-Marie Fourrier: fermentation with the estate's own yeasts, slow ageing on fine lees, restraint rather than effect. The wine remains dry, with alcohol at 13.0% vol.
On the palate
Pale golden yellow with greenish highlights. On the nose, green apple, lemon and white blossom, with a hint of hazelnut behind. The palate opens with pear and citrus fruit, the acidity holds the line, the texture is finely creamy, the finish stays mineral.
Food pairings
With pan-fried saltwater fish and scallops, with poultry in cream sauce or mushroom risotto. For cheese, goat's cheese and Comté are the natural choice.
Highlights
Yann Charlopin is the son of Philippe Charlopin, who worked closely with Henri Jayer. In 2013 he founded his own domaine with Justine Tissier; in 2015 the couple took over Domaine David Clarke in Morey-Saint-Denis. The house's wines feature on the lists of The French Laundry, Tour d'Argent and Frenchie.
