About this wine
Character
The Alte Reben Blauburgunder 2023 from Sattlerhof is a bright, lively Pinot Noir from the Ried Kranachberg in Southern Styria. It favours freshness over power: light extraction, clear fruit, 12.5% vol. A red wine that also appeals to white wine lovers.
Terroir and origin
The Ried Kranachberg stretches between Gamlitz and Leutschach. The vines grow at 450 to 550 metres and root in calcareous quartz sands with gravel and shell limestone. Willi and Andrea Sattler tend their vineyards around Gamlitz with meticulous care and vinify with the calm assurance of experienced winemakers.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Pinot Noir from old vines. The fully ripe grapes are gently hand-harvested and moved in the cellar by gravity alone. Fermentation proceeds spontaneously, with minimal extraction. The wine then ages for two years in a 300-litre oak barrel before being bottled dry.
On the palate
The nose is bright and juicy: crisp berries, blood orange and cherry, joined by herbs and violet blossoms, underscored by wood, a hint of vanilla and a slightly buttery note. Lively acidity carries the delicate fruit, the tannin provides fine grip, and the energy holds from the tip of the tongue through to the finish.
Food pairings
With roast duck breast, tender veal roast and delicately spiced mushroom dishes.
Special features
Single vineyard, hand harvest, spontaneous fermentation and two years in oak, at just 12.5% vol. alcohol. The estate is certified organic, bottled by the family winery Sattlerhof in Gamlitz (AT-BIO-402).
