About this wine
Character
Brut Nature here means literally that: after disgorgement, no more sugar is added. What remains is a sparkling wine that lives on fruit and acidity, clearly defined and, at 12.0% vol., leaning slender rather than broad. A sparkling wine for anyone who loves dryness.
Terroir and origin
Michael Andres works out of Deidesheim, Steffen Mugler from Maikammer. The estate's vineyards stretch from the steep, sandy Deidesheimer Mäushöhle, Andres' favourite site, via the Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad all the way to Maikammer. The two have been organically certified since 2006 and have farmed biodynamically since 2010. Beehives stand in the Mäushöhle.
Grape variety and vinification
The cuvée combines Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Pressing is selective, with only around two-thirds of the must going into the sparkling wine. This is followed by traditional bottle fermentation; in-house, the sparkling wines rest on the lees for 12 to 48 months.
On the palate
Pale gold in the glass, with a fine, persistent bead. On the nose, ripe apple, brioche and lemon, alongside that grapey, mineral note that defines the house's sparkling wines. The palate entry is taut, the acidity fine-grained, the finish dry and long.
Special features
In 1989 the two friends started out with 1,000 litres of Riesling. In 2021 Eichelmann honoured their collection as "Germany's best sparkling wine collection", and at the Meininger Deutscher Sektpreis they have regularly earned top scores since 2019. Their motto: "We don't want to grow outward, but inward."
