About this wine
Character
The Cuvée Elena Brut Nature 2021 is a biodynamically produced grower's sparkling wine from the Palatinate that needs no dosage, drawing all its richness from fruit and lees ageing. In the glass, an intense golden yellow with a fine, lively mousse. On the nose, ripe apples, pears and quince, along with nutty tones, dried fruit and a hint of honey; delicate green and citrus notes keep the freshness alive.
Terroir and origin
Michael Andres in Deidesheim and Steffen Mugler in Maikammer have run their joint sparkling wine project together since 1989, starting with 1000 litres of Riesling. The grapes come from the steep, sandy Deidesheimer Mäushöhle, where beehives stand among the vines, from the Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad and from Maikammer. The estate has been certified organic since 2006 and biodynamic since 2010.
Grape variety and vinification
A blend of Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Meunier. Only around two-thirds of the pressed must is used. This is followed by traditional bottle fermentation with lees ageing of 12 to 48 months, which gives the sparkling wine its grapey, mineral profile. 11.5% ABV.
On the palate
Juicy, nutty and creamy, with fully integrated carbonation. The expansive fruit meets a saline note and a piquant toasty aromatic that drives the drinkability. Dry in style, without ever seeming hard.
Special features
In 2021 the Eichelmann guide named the duo's collection the best sparkling wine collection in Germany; at the Meininger Deutscher Sektpreis, Andres & Mugler have regularly received top ratings since 2019. Best served not too cold, in a medium-sized white wine glass.
