About this wine
Character
A sparkling wine with drive and substance that openly displays its long lees ageing: juicy fruit, salty spice, an élevage entirely without sweetness. Brut Nature here literally means that no dosage was added.
Terroir and origin
The grapes grow in the two winemakers' Palatinate vineyards, stretching from Deidesheim via the Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad to Maikammer. In the steep, sandy Deidesheimer Mäushöhle, Michael Andres' favourite site, beehives provide additional biodiversity. The estate has worked organically since 2006 and biodynamically since 2010.
Grape variety and vinification
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, aged 100% in oak barrels. Only around a third to two thirds of the pressed must is used: Andres & Mugler take about two thirds. This is followed by traditional bottle fermentation and 50 lunar phases on the lees, which give the Sekt its name. 12.0% vol.
On the palate
Pure juiciness, with distinct apple and vineyard peach, plus fine toasty notes from lees ageing. The carbonation is very fine and fully integrated into the fruit's texture, the finish salty, long and deep.
Food pairing
Its power and depth make it a fine companion at the table, especially with dishes with earthy and nutty notes.
Special features
Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler started out in 1989 with 1,000 litres of Riesling. In 2021, Eichelmann named their collection Germany's best sparkling wine collection, and they have regularly earned top scores at the Meininger German Sekt Award since 2019.
