About this wine
Character
A dry Blaufränkisch from Southern Burgenland that combines power and finesse without being loud. Profound, harmonious, and clearly structured at 13.5% ABV: a wine that makes a statement.
Terroir and Origin
The Ried Weinberg is located in Deutsch-Schützen. The hillside vineyards face west and north, with iron-rich, clay-bearing soils—a loam that grounds the wine. The vines are 40 years old. Pannonian daytime heat paired with cool easterly winds: this contrast keeps the acidity vibrant.
Grape Variety and Vinification
Single-varietal Blaufränkisch, also known as Lemberger. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction. Followed by 38 months in 600-litre casks—a vessel that works slowly—and subsequently 18 months of bottle ageing.
On the Palate
Juicy and grippy, supported by refined acidity and distinct minerality. On the nose, blackberry, elderberry, cherry, and blackcurrant, alongside elderwood, boxwood, and green bell pepper. In the background, black pepper, woodsmoke, leather, coffee, and a hint of liquorice.
Food Pairings
Its power and finesse make it an ideal companion for meat and game dishes, as well as hearty vegetarian preparations.
Special Features
Clemens Krutzler cultivates twelve hectares in the fifth generation; his CK line has represented low-intervention winemaking with minimal cellar manipulation since 2020. A total of 56 months of cask and bottle maturation gives the 2021 vintage its composure.
