About this wine

Character

The entry point into Thomas Morey's white range captures the house style unvarnished: open, juicy, with fine texture and drive rather than richness.

Terroir and origin

The grapes come from various plots in Chassagne-Montrachet, complemented by 15% from the Côte Chalonnaise and 10% from the Mâconnais. Thomas Morey is the tenth generation of his family, which has been based in Chassagne-Montrachet since 1643. Since founding his own domaine in 2007, he and his wife Sylvie have farmed 13 hectares across seven villages of the Côte de Beaune, spread over 57 plots.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Chardonnay. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank, with malolactic fermentation occurring naturally. The wine remains on its lees, without any bâtonnage; the proportion of new oak is around 20%. Sulphur is added only in the final six months in barrel, in several minimal doses, so the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l in total.

On the palate

Pale golden yellow in the glass. On the nose, ripe, crisp white-fleshed fruit and citrus notes, along with a touch of oak and cinnamon, with no discernible reductive notes. On the palate, juicy and lively, with elegant fruit, fine citrus and cinnamon again; the oak remains subtle. Structure and fine texture carry the dry finish, 13.0% vol.

Special features

Thomas Morey began converting to organic farming in 2011. Spontaneous fermentation, no sulphur during fermentation, and a maximum of 35 mg/l in the finished wine are part of his working method. The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti entrusts him with tending its vines in Le Montrachet Grand Cru.
