About this wine

Character

A Blanc de Blancs built on clarity: pale, delicate yellow with green highlights, fine bubbles, and a nose of great finesse. Pear, honeydew melon and quince meet lime, lemongrass and fresh ginger, underpinned by a cool, mineral thread.

Terroir and origin

Chouilly is the northernmost Grand Cru of the Côte des Blancs, with chalk soils of great purity. The grapes come from a mosaic of different microterroirs: 30 parcels spread across the village's gentle hills, including plots in the prized Montaigu vineyard, the vines averaging 44 years old and rooted deep in the limestone. Jean-Pierre and Caroline Vazart lead the house in its third generation, based at the red-brick house built by Louis-Victor Coquart in 1865.

Grape variety and vinification

100% Chardonnay. The blend draws 66% on the 2022 vintage, rounded out with reserve wines, and was bottled in May 2023. Ageing takes place in stainless steel rather than wood, so the terroir speaks rather than the cask. After roughly two years on the lees, disgorgement followed in July 2025, with a restrained dosage of 6 g/l.

On the palate

Juicy and lively, with a saline edge and fine effervescence dancing across the tongue. Crystalline and pure in expression, invigorating on the finish, with intensity but no heaviness.

Distinctive features

Since 1982 the family kept a Réserve Perpétuelle, nearly four decades of winemaking history in a single vat. In 2020 Jean-Pierre Vazart gave it up to transition to organic farming, since the regulations do not allow blending with reserve wines made conventionally. The Brut Réserve shows that the decision has not come at the cost of quality.
