About this wine

Character

Austere, saline and tense. At 11.5% vol., this Crémant is built for depth and clarity without ever becoming broad or heavy; the acidity is precisely shaped, the mousse fine-beaded.

Terroir and origin

The grapes grow on the Corniche Angevine above Rochefort-sur-Loire, a protected escarpment overlooking the Loire as far as the island of Béhuard. The subsoil consists of green and purple schist, quartz, and spilite and phtanite of volcanic origin. These stony soils limit yields to a maximum of 45 hectolitres per hectare. Liv Vincendeau has farmed four hectares here since 2014.

Grape variety and winemaking

Pure Chenin Blanc from vines between ten and eighty years old, fermented spontaneously. The grapes were harvested in early September 2023 and bottled on 9 April 2024, followed by 24 months on the lees, whereas the appellation requires only nine. Disgorgement was carried out with a 3 g/l dosage: Extra Brut.

On the palate

Lemon and orange blossom open the wine, followed by Granny Smith apple and Abate pear, with notes of oyster shell, sea breeze and wet pebble. On the palate it is citrusy and taut, bone-dry, with a saline character and powdery phenolics. The long finish stays chalky and cool.

Special features

The plots have been Demeter-certified since 2020, and the logo appears on the label. The wine is matured in the tuffeau cellars of Saumur at a constant 11 degrees. The Vincendeau estate produces 16,000 bottles a year, and the winemaker handles pruning, canopy management, harvest and vinification herself. Here in magnum format.
