About this wine
Character
A Crémant whose weight comes from maturity rather than sugar. The extended lees ageing through to late disgorgement layers white bread crust and dried herbs over the Chenin Blanc, beneath which a saline edge of seashell persists. Taut acidity, finely creamy mousse, dry finish.
Terroir and origin
The four hectares of Domaine Vincendeau lie on the Corniche Angevine, a protected escarpment above Rochefort-sur-Loire, with views over the Loire as far as the island of Béhuard. The soil consists of green and violet schist, spilite and phtanite of volcanic origin, interspersed with quartz. These barren slopes limit yields to a maximum of 45 hectolitres per hectare. Maturation takes place in the tuffeau cellars of Saumur at a constant eleven degrees.
Grape variety and vinification
Chenin Blanc alone, from vines between ten and eighty years old. Liv Vincendeau, born in Darmstadt and trained as a chemist in York and Strasbourg, has run the estate since 2014 and largely handles pruning, canopy work, harvest and vinification herself. Spontaneous fermentation, no dosage, Demeter-certified since 2020. Dégorgement Tardif means late disgorgement: the wine rests on its lees considerably longer than the nine months required for Crémant de Loire. Annual production of around 16,000 bottles.
On the palate
Lean and precise, 12.5% vol., the mousse fine and lasting. Ripe apple and white blossom carry the opening, the mid-palate stays mineral, the finish dry and long.
Food pairings
Oysters and seafood, goat cheeses such as Sainte-Maure de Touraine, sushi, smoked trout or a poultry terrine.
Special features
1500ml magnum from a tiny estate where the winemaker handles nearly every step herself. Demeter logo on the label.
