About this wine

Character

A Premier Cru from Chambolle-Musigny that favors finesse over power. The fruit stays cool and cleanly defined, the tannin fine-grained, the finish long. This is the signature of Domaine Hubert Lignier: precisely drawn Pinots, finely built, aimed at length.

Terroir and origin

The Les Chabiots vineyard lies in Chambolle-Musigny, one of the Côte de Nuits communes where the Lignier family holds parcels, alongside Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate's holdings date back to the 1880s, when Jacques Lignier bought parcels that phylloxera had devalued. His son Jules replanted them, Hubert Lignier took over management in 1959, and began bottling under his own name from 1973. Today Laurent Lignier runs the estate, the fifth generation.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Pinot Noir. Long, cool maceration periods precede fermentation, and the share of whole clusters has grown over the years. The cellar, moved to Morey-Saint-Denis in 2008, works solely by gravity — from the must to bottling, no pump touches the wine. New oak is deliberately restrained and spread across four cooperages, so that no single barrel leaves its stamp on the wine. 13.0% vol., dry.

On the palate

Red cherry and raspberry, with violet, a touch of undergrowth and fine spice. The body stays sleek, the acidity cool, the tannin fine-grained, the finish clear and long.

Distinctive features

In the vineyard, the estate has worked without synthetic inputs since 2007. The genetic origin of the domaine lies in twenty-seven rows of vines that Henri Lignier planted in 1955 in the Monts Luisants climat, whose wood he used in the 1960s to propagate the other parcels by selection.
