About this wine
Character
A lean, silky Pinot Noir with fine-grained tannin and cool red fruit. The Lignier house style lies in its clarity: precise, finely built, aimed at length rather than power.
Terroir and origin
The Les Bussières vineyard lies in the commune of Chambolle-Musigny on the Côte de Nuits. The Lignier family has farmed vines in Morey-Saint-Denis since the 1880s; Jacques Lignier bought parcels back then that phylloxera had devalued, and his son Jules patiently replanted them. Under Hubert Lignier, who took over management in 1959 and began bottling himself from 1973, holdings were added across the Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny among them. Today Laurent Lignier runs the domaine as the fifth generation.
Grape variety and winemaking
Pure Pinot Noir, vinified dry at 13.0% vol. Since 2007 the estate has worked without synthetic inputs in the vineyard, followed by organic certification in 2019. The cellar acquired in 2008 in Morey-Saint-Denis moves the wine solely by gravity, from the must to bottling, without a single pump. Long, cool maceration periods precede fermentation; the proportion of whole clusters has grown over the years, while new oak is deliberately kept in check and spread across four coopers so that no single barrel imprints the wine.
On the palate
On the nose, red cherry, raspberry and wild berries, underscored by violet, rose petal, forest floor and fine spice. The body stays lean, the tannin fine-grained, the acidity well integrated. The finish lingers long, saline and mineral.
Food pairing recommendations
Duck breast with cherries, coq au vin, delicate calf's liver or porcini risotto. Also a fitting match with mature Époisses and Comté. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees.
Special features
Magnum bottle of 1500 ml, bottled at Domaine Hubert Lignier in Morey-Saint-Denis; in this larger format the wine ages more slowly.
