About this wine

Character

A Chambolle-Musigny that draws its effect from clarity: raspberry and redcurrant on the nose, with violet and a fine spiciness. Finely built, sharply drawn, made for length.

Terroir and origin

The Les Bussières vineyard belongs to the Chambolle-Musigny appellation in the Côte de Nuits. The Lignier family has farmed vines in Morey-Saint-Denis since the 1880s: Jacques Lignier bought parcels back then that phylloxera had devalued, and his son Jules patiently replanted them. In 1959 Hubert Lignier took over the estate's management and in 1973 decided to bottle the wines himself rather than sell them in bulk to merchants. Today Laurent Lignier runs the estate in its fifth generation.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Pinot Noir. Long, cool maceration periods precede fermentation; the proportion of whole clusters has grown over the years. The cellar, taken over in 2008 in Morey-Saint-Denis, works solely by gravity — from the must to the bottling, no pump touches the wine. Laurent Lignier has deliberately scaled back new oak and spread it across four coopers, so that no single barrel dominates the wine.

On the palate

Dry, with a silky texture and fine-grained tannin, carried by precise acidity. The fruit stays cool, the finish long and clear. Alcohol: 14.0% vol.

Distinctive features

From 2007, synthetic products disappeared from the vineyards. Laurent Lignier returned to Morey-Saint-Denis in 2010 and had reunified the estate by 2013; ever since, it has carried his signature: cool precision, fine structure, clarity.
