About this wine
Character
The "Clos de la Roche" Grand Cru 2022 is the centerpiece of Domaine Hubert Lignier's range: a Pinot Noir of cool precision, finely built, geared towards clarity and length. At 13.5% vol. it remains dry and well-defined, without heaviness.
Terroir and origin
The vineyard lies in Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits, where the Lignier family has cultivated Pinot Noir since the 1880s. Jacques Lignier bought parcels back then that phylloxera had devalued, and his son Jules patiently replanted them. Hubert Lignier took over management in 1959 and began in 1973 to bottle his wines himself rather than sell them in bulk to négociants. Today Laurent Lignier runs the estate in its fifth generation.
Grape variety and vinification
Pinot Noir, farmed without synthetic products since 2007. Fermentation is preceded by long, cool macerations, with the proportion of whole clusters having grown over the years. The cellar acquired in 2008 in Morey-Saint-Denis operates without pumps: from the vat to bottling, gravity alone moves the wine. Laurent Lignier deliberately holds back on new oak and spreads it across four coopers so that no single barrel dominates the wine.
On the palate
Ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, dark cherry, blackberry and violet, followed by clove and cinnamon. The attack is concentrated, the texture silky, the tannin fine-grained; vibrant acidity and a mineral core carry the long finish.
Distinctive features
Grand Cru from Morey-Saint-Denis in a 1500 ml magnum, bottled by Domaine Hubert Lignier, 13, Route Nationale 74, in Morey-Saint-Denis.
