About this wine
Character
A Pinot Noir of cool precision. The fruit appears dark and sharply contoured, the tannin fine-grained, length coming from clarity rather than fullness. Vinified dry, 14.0% vol.
Terroir and origin
The Grand Cru Clos de la Roche in Morey-Saint-Denis is the heart of Domaine Hubert Lignier. The family has farmed Pinot Noir here since the 1880s: Jacques Lignier bought plots devalued by phylloxera, his son Jules patiently replanted them, Hubert Lignier took over management in 1959 and began bottling the wines himself from 1973. Today Laurent Lignier runs the estate in the fifth generation.
Grape variety and vinification
Pinot Noir, organically grown: free of synthetic inputs in the vineyard since 2007, organic-certified since 2019. The cellar, acquired in 2008, operates entirely by gravity — from the must to bottling, no pump ever moves the wine. Long, cool maceration periods precede fermentation, and the proportion of whole clusters has grown over the years. New oak is kept restrained and spread across four coopers, so that no single barrel marks the wine.
On the palate
Deep ruby red with violet highlights. On the nose, dark cherry, blackberry and fine spice notes, with a mineral freshness behind. On the palate, vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannin carry the wine, the finish staying clear and long.
Food recommendations
This wine pairs beautifully with partridge with wild mushrooms, duck breast with cherries and braised veal shoulder, and with cheese, Comté or a mature Époisses.
Special features
Organic viticulture and a pump-free cellar. 750ml, 14.0% vol. With a few years of bottle age, the wine gains in complexity.
