About this wine
Character
A cool, finely structured Pinot Noir with pure, unembellished fruit. The 2022 vintage brings vibrant freshness and a tightly knit yet supple tannic frame; its 13.5% ABV carries this without heaviness. Dry.
Terroir and origin
Domaine Darviot-Perrin is based in Monthélie, where the family has held its plots since the 19th century. Eleven hectares in the Côte de Beaune are spread across Monthélie, Volnay, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, encompassing seven premier cru sites, including "Les Bondues". Pierre-Antonin Darviot runs the estate as its tenth generation and has farmed the soils biodynamically since taking over in 2019.
Grape variety and vinification
Single-varietal Pinot Noir. In the cellar, Pierre-Antonin Darviot works with up to 100% whole-cluster fermentation: the stems lend floral notes and silky tannins. Maturation takes place in used wooden barrels that don't overshadow the fruit. Neither fined nor filtered, bottled with minimal sulphur use.
On the palate
Morello cherry and red forest berries, alongside a floral note and fine earthy spice. The acidity keeps the wine upright, the tannins are silkily integrated, and the finish draws out long and narrow.
Food pairings
With briefly seared pigeon breast, with duck breast in a light jus, with gently braised veal sweetbreads. A chanterelle risotto also suits this understated style.
Notable features
Pierre-Antonin Darviot took over the estate in 2019 at the age of 25, following the death of his father Jacques, having studied oenology in Beaune and gained experience in the Loire and New Zealand. His first vintage ushered in the conversion to biodynamics.
