About this wine

Character

A multi-layered Pinot Noir with a masculine, profound appeal that opens up gradually in the glass. Decanting benefits it enormously. Dense dark ruby red with distinct violet reflections.

Terroir and origin

The parcel measures 0.15 hectares and lies in the Le Chapitre vineyard in Chenôve, bordering Clos du Roy to the west and Montre-Cul to the east. The site has been known since the Middle Ages but was only recently included in the Marsannay appellation. The subsoil consists of red stony clay and sandy soil derived from Comblanchien limestone, along with grèzes litées and sandy, gravelly scree.

Grape variety and vinification

A varietal Pinot Noir from organic farming. After full destemming, a cool pre-fermentation maceration is followed by spontaneous fermentation with the wine's own yeasts. The wine then matures slowly for 18 months on fine lees in 228-litre barriques, mainly from François Frères, with a proportion of new oak of 20 to 30 percent.

On the palate

The nose reveals deep, intense fruit of cherry, plum and rosehip, alongside distinctly earthy notes and hints of leather, tobacco and coffee. On the palate, the wine flirts with invigorating acidity and mineral depth, while its fruit remains red-berried and vibrant.

Food pairing

With meat dishes with smoky and herbal influences.

Special features

Yann Charlopin trained in the cellar of his father Philippe Charlopin, who worked closely with Henri Jayer, and further honed his craft with Jean-Marie Fourrier. In 2013 he founded his own domaine with Justine Tissier; the vineyards in Marsannay come from her family's estate.
