About this wine

Character

A Pinot Noir that demands patience. Freshly opened, it comes across as lactic, reminiscent of mixed forest-fruit yoghurt; over hours in the glass, it turns into a deep, complex wine. Intense garnet red, cool and concentrated in expression.

Terroir and origin

1.4 hectares in the Climat Les Longeroies, which spans 38.32 hectares in total. The vines are spread across the middle of the slope, covering both soil types: the limestone of the Dessus des Longeroies and the red marl at the base. Les Longeroies is regarded as a climat with prospects of future Cru status.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Pinot Noir from high-density planting of 10,000 vines per hectare. After destemming, the wine undergoes cool pre-fermentation maceration and spontaneous fermentation, then matures slowly for 16 months on fine lees in 228-litre barriques, mainly from François Frères, with 20 to 30% new oak. 13.0% vol., dry.

On the palate

Silky, with charming tannin and a distinctly vibrant acidity. The fruit stays cool and clear: forest fruit, plenty of cherry and elderberry, with sour cherry, blood orange, herbs and stone on the nose. Decanting is well worthwhile.

Food pairings

Veal cutlet in its own jus with spring onion confit and cherry chutney, shoulder of venison with bacon, Brussels sprouts and elderberry reduction, or a cocotte of Bonnottes de Noirmoutier with confit duck legs.

Special features

Yann Charlopin founded the domaine in 2013 together with his wife Justine Tissier, whose family owned vineyards in Marsannay. He trained in his father Philippe Charlopin's cellar and with Jean-Marie Fourrier. The estate farms organically and by hand, with minimal sulphur use and only light filtration of the wines.
