About this wine
Character
A Chardonnay that favours clarity over opulence. Pierre-Henri Rougeot works with a purist approach: chalky minerality, taut acidity and a subtle reduction carry the wine, while the oak ageing stays in the background. The result is a white wine with drive and a calm core.
Terroir and origin
The grapes grow in the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, on the limestone and marl soils that give the white wines of the Meursault appellation their characteristic drive. The 2023 vintage had a moderate climate, preserving the acidity that holds this wine together.
Grape variety and vinification
A single-variety Chardonnay from hand-harvested grapes. Fermentation begins spontaneously with wild yeasts, and the wine is aged in used oak barrels, without a dominant oak note or extended bâtonnage. Rougeot gives the wine time without polishing it.
On the palate
On the nose, citrus zest, ripe yellow fruit and toasted almond, with a chalky note beneath. The entry is dense and silky, vibrant acidity holds the creamy texture in tension, and the finish remains long and silky. 13.0% vol.
Food recommendations
Pan-fried turbot in a light butter sauce, Bresse chicken with morels or a veal shank ragout. Also seafood, veal fillet and aged Comté.
Special features
The absence of new oak and extended bâtonnage defines the style: the wine expresses its origin rather than a cellar signature. Dry-finished, 750 ml.
